Hallo Forum
Model 525, Release V5R4
ich bin völlig neu auf dem System I und soll nun PTF' s installieren.
Mir wurde gesagt, das sind laufende Korrekturen am Betriebssystem. Und es kann mehrere geben. Die genaue Aufgabenstellung ist eigentlich: aktualisiere unser System i.
Ich habe das

gefunden.
Gibt es irgendwo eine Anleitung wie ich raus bekomme was ich installieren muß?
Und noch eine Anleitung für das wie ?
Wenn es um Betriebssystem updates geht, wieso ist das in Hardware und Software aufgeteilt?
gibt es so etwas wie im Linux apt-get update ?
Bin für jeden hilfreichen link dankbar, aber, wenn möglich, in deutsch.

Hallo, tolle Aufgabe die Du hast, bei PTFs geht in der Regel nichts schief, wenn aber doch dann gründlich! Du solltest als Anfänger auf jedenfall vor dem PTF eine Komplettsicherung "go save 21" machen und danach auch! Die PTFs bekommst Du bei IBM und teilen sich in div. Typen auf. Falls Du einen Servicevertrag hast, kannst Du dir die PTFs als CD zusenden lassen, alternativ mußt Du diese bei IBM (FIXCENTRAL) runterladen. Sind dann schonmal etliche MBs. Bei allen PTFs ist ein sog. Coverletter dabei was beschreibt für was es ist. Nach den ersten 3 wirds langweilig.... Gruß Gregor
Hallo dibe, also ich würde folgendermaßen an die Sache rangehen:
Du schreibst uns welche PTF Gruppen, samt Level (GO PTF -> 12), auf deinem System installiert sind und das Forum gibt eine Empfehlung welche PTF Gruppen du bestellen sollst. Diese bestellst du dann (Habt ihr eine gute DSL Leitung mit Flatrate ? Kann nämlich echt viel sein) und spielst sie über die virtuelle optische Einheit ein (wenn Platz auf den Festplatten ist). Wie man das genau einspielt steht in dem Begleitschreiben.

Also, ich habe mich nun bei fixcentral angemeldet und bin dem Verlauf gefolgt.
Letzendlich ist das aber immer zusammengebrochen und nun habe ich beschlossen die Berichtigungen per FTP zu holen. IBM hat mir einen Link gesandt mit der zusammenstellung die wir brauchen (hoffe das stimmt)
Es sind 35 CD Images, die meisten 640 MB groß ! Das dauert.
Aber 5 hab ich schon, ich dachte ich fang schon mal an ...
Außerdem steht da ich soll den Instructions folgen.
Die Frage ist ... Wo krieg ich die her ?
Ein Begleitschreiben hab ich nicht, nur eine .txt Datei in der alle Dateien und ihre größe nochmal aufgelistet sind
Habt Ihr noch eine 'alte' Instructions Datei? (vielleicht übersetzt ? ne, is egal, ein wenig englisch krieg ich noch zusammen)

Tja 35 Stück ist heftig, vermute das Du zumindestens den ersten Set komplett haben mußt um ihn sauber installieren zu können. Ich hoffe Du hast soviel Platz auf der Maschine.
Dann alle Kataloge erstellen und dann sollte das PTF eigentlich funktionieren.
Alternativ kannst Du die auch auf CD brennen und dann laden, aber auch da muß das Set komplett sein.

wär schon gut, wenn alles virtuell auf die Maschine passt. Dann brauchst Du nicht stundenlang neben der Maschine zu sitzen und DiscJockey spielen - und vor allem bekommst du keine Überraschungen durch defekten CDs.
Denke aber dran, dass die 35 virtuellen CDs u.a. auch die Sicherung aufblähen.
(Man kann die evtl. von der Sicherung ausschließen, ich habe aber mit go save 21 keine Erfahrung, ob das da auch geht.)

Das sieht ja schon mal gut aus. Ist genügend Platz für die 35 Images auf der Platte ? Würde bei uns nicht gehen. Die eigentliche Installation der PTFs sieht so aus....

Use these steps when you ordered and received the cumulative PTF package electronically as optical image files:
1. Create your image catalog and add the image files to the catalog. For information on how to create an image catalog, refer to the iSeries Information Center:

(i5/OS and related software->Maintain and manage i5/OS and related software->Use software fixes->Install fixes->Step 3: Choose your fix installation scenario->Install fixes from an image catalog).
2. Load the image catalog into the virtual optical device using the following command:
LODIMGCLG IMGCLG(ptfcatalog) DEVICE(OPTVRTxx) OPTION(*LOAD)
3. Type the following command:
GO PTF
Press the Enter key.
When the Program Temporary Fix (PTF) display is shown, do the
following:
a. Type an 8 (Install program temporary fix package) and press the
Enter key. The Install Options for Program Temporary Fixes display
is shown.
b. Type the name of the virtual optical device in the Device field on
the Install Options for Program Temporary Fixes display.
c. Enter a Y (Yes) in the Perform automatic IPL option on the Install
Options for Program Temporary Fixes display. If you choose not to
do an automatic IPL after the PTFs have been loaded, the PTFs will
not be temporarily applied until after the next unattended IPL.
d. Enter a 1 in the Prompt for media field in order to install only
the PTFs from the media.
If you have received other individual PTFs and/or PTF groups
electronically that you want to install at the same time, type 3
in the Prompt for media field.
e. Depending on the display shown, take appropriate action as
follows:
* If the Confirm Install of Licensed Internal Code Fixes display
is shown, then press F10 automatically IPL. Wait for the system
to power down and start an IPL. When the Sign On display is
shown, go back to step 2 and start the installation of this PTF
package again. (The next time through these instructions, you
will not get this display.)
* If the Confirm Automatic IPL display is shown, follow the
instructions on the display, and then go to step 3f.
* Otherwise, go to step 3f.
f. The display shows the licensed programs for which PTFs are being
loaded. All volumes that are loaded in the image catalog are
automatically processed.
4. Continue with the COMPLETE THE INSTALL PROCESS section.

die downloads laufen, Platz hab ich gemacht.
Ich kenne die iseries noch nicht so gut. Was ich da jetzt herunterlade sind mal so locker 20 G.
Wie groß ist dieses Betriebssystem, das die Fehlerkorrekturen nach ca 14 Monaten 20 G in Anspruch nehmen?
Die qsys und die qgpl haben ca 3,2 G
(z.zt. bin ich nicht sicher ob ich mich mit dem System anfreunden kann)

Also ich installiere PTFs nur dann wenn es ein Problem gibt ansonsten lasse ich die Finger davon.
